Window Replacement FAQs

Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask us most about replacing their windows.

How much will new windows save on energy bills?

The savings depend on your current windows and the replacements you choose. Upgrading from single-pane to double-pane Low-E windows can reduce heating and cooling costs by 15–30%. For an average home in our area spending $200/month on energy, that's $360–720 per year in potential savings. Triple-pane windows with gas fills can save even more, especially in drafty older homes.

What's the difference between insert and full-frame replacement?

Insert (pocket) replacement fits a new window into the existing frame, leaving the surrounding trim and exterior intact. It's faster, less invasive, and more affordable. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, allowing us to inspect and repair the framing, install new flashing and insulation, and maximize the glass area. We recommend full-frame when the existing frame shows rot, water damage, or structural issues.

How long does installation take?

For insert replacements, we typically install 6–8 windows per day. A full-frame replacement takes more time per window, so a whole-house project with full-frame installation might span 2–4 days. Your home is never left unsecured overnight. We remove the old window and install the new one in the same operation.

Can you work on older or historic homes?

Absolutely. We work with the unique challenges of older homes regularly, from stone farmhouses to early 1900s twins, including non-standard window sizes, masonry openings, and access limitations. We custom-order windows to fit your exact opening dimensions and can work with brick, stone, and stucco exterior finishes. If your home is in a historic district, we can help you choose windows that meet any local preservation guidelines.
